Iriodin(R) is the trademark for a very special type of pigments from the Merck company: the pearl luster pigments. Based on the natural mineral mica, they are covered with a thin layer of metal oxides, for example titanium dioxide and/or iron oxide. Through an interplay of transparency, refraction index, coating and multiple reflections, you get a variety of color effects, which otherwise exist only in nature – silver-white, interference, gold and metallic luster effects.
